Benefits of Joining Colleagues
Organizational Development Regional workshops, including sessions at the annual Preservation & Revitalization Conference and a fall training event, will present speakers with local and national expertise to share preservation advice about advocacy and lobbying, nonprofit "best practices", community revitalization, architecture and design, and other topics of special relevance to Colleagues.
Advocacy The program will provide an infrastructure for collaboration and communication to identify emerging preservation needs and assemble effective lobbying constituencies to address issues of local, statewide and national importance. In addition, local advocacy assistance will be offered by Preservation Maryland to support Colleagues in their community preservation efforts.
Training Preservation Maryland will create education materials accessible by Colleagues in both electronic and printed formats. The first topic in the series will be Introduction to Preservation Advocacy. Future topics will include "how-tos" on preservation tourism, preservation and community planning, and other relevant topics for strengthening local organizations. An educational track focused on topics specific to preservation organizations will be offered during the annual Preservation & Revitalization Conference.
Resources Preservation Maryland will offer a Speakers Bureau of preservation and organizational development experts and trainers who will be available to Colleagues for special events, annual meetings, and community workshops. Colleagues will receive discounted registration for the annual Preservation & Revitalization Conference. Preservation Maryland's website will provide access to information that can help make valuable preservation connections - nationally, regionally and statewide.
Networking The Colleagues Program will provide opportunities for local and statewide organizations to exchange ideas at meetings and events, facilitated by Preservation Maryland in cooperation with Colleagues and partners. Additional networking opportunities will be offered at an affinity lunch during the annual Preservation & Revitalization Conference.
Communication Colleagues will receive an e-newsletter every other week with current information on special events, funding opportunities, and national and local preservation news. An e-mail list serve will provide a forum for Colleagues to exchange preservation advice and seek solutions for preservation, conservation, and advocacy issues.
Financial Assistance Colleagues will receive priority eligibility for Preservation Maryland's grant and loan programs. Notice about other funding opportunities from groups such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Maryland Humanities Council, and Maryland Historical Trust will be provided.
Building the Movement Participation in Colleagues will expand opportunities for the Maryland preservation community to reach out to nonprofit preservation groups, heritage areas, environmental interest groups, main street revitalization initiatives, museums, archeology advocates, government entities and historic district commissions, to develop strategic preservation and advocacy partnerships with state and national organizations.
