FUNDING

Preservation Maryland currently administers two grant programs.  The Heritage Fund supports preservation projects and organizations through grants that are awarded for a variety of purposes - from emergency repairs to case studies - and range from $500 to $5,000. The Heritage Fund is "user-friendly" and characterized by brief response time and minimal paperwork.

In 2006, Preservation Maryland developed the Tobacco Barn Restoration Fund in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Maryland Historical Trust, the Southern Maryland Heritage Area, and the governments of Anne Arundel, Prince George, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's Counties.  This effort has been supported by grants from the Maryland Historical Trust and from the Save America's Treasures program, secured by Rep. Steny Hoyer.

ADVOCACY

Preservation Maryland has become well known for its advocacy, in both public policy and direct intervention to save threatened historic resources. Preservation Maryland works closely with a coalition of community organizations, preservation and environmental groups, and local governments to monitor legislative issues that effect both funding and programs that support preservation-related initiatives at the national, state, and local levels. OUTREACH

Preservation Maryland's outreach activities can be as simple as answering callers' questions or as complex as organizing ongoing initiatives designed to strengthen local preservation groups. Preservation Maryland works with targeted organizations to assess specific needs and to help address them through technical assistance, grants, workshops, and publications. Preservation Maryland also sponsors conferences, lectures, and tours. Additionally, board members and staff are involved with a variety of task forces, committees, and partnerships that focus on protecting Maryland's cultural heritage.
